Lance Briggs was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week today.
He had six tackles, a tackle for a loss, one interception and two passes defensed in the Bears’ 24-18 win over Tampa Bay in the NFL International Series game at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
In the third quarter, with the Bears leading 21-5, Briggs recorded his first interception of the season and 13th of his career.
He has at least one interception in eight of his nine NFL seasons.
Chicago’s defense held Tampa Bay to 280 total net yards, including just 30 rushing yards.
The Bears recorded four interceptions and had one sack. This is Briggs’ second career Player of the Week Award (Week 3, 2009).
Briggs is the fourth Bears player to earn a player of the week recognition so far this season. Brian Urlacher won one back in Week 1, Devin Hester won one Week 4 and Week 6 and Matt Forte won one in
