The Bears added Brandon Meriweather on Sunday, a day after the New England Patriots decided to release him and his $1.65 million contract.
NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora has reported that Meriweather received a one-year deal from the Bears worth $2.25 million for this season and a signing bonus of $1 million.
This move makes a lot of sense for the Bears. First of all, they scooped up a veteran player who has made the last two Pro Bowls as an alternate.
By the looks of the lucrative contract the Bears gave him, he was drawing interest from other teams because of his experience and his talent.
The 27 year-old Meriweather has appeared in 64 games making 263 tackles, two sacks, 12 interceptions and four forced fumbles in his four seasons in the NFL. Those kinds of numbers would attract any team.
