Bears linebacker and team captain Brian Urlacher was named NFC defensive player of the month yesterday.
Urlacher led the NFC with 49 tackles in December. Urlacher had 17 tackles in a loss to the Patriots and 11 tackles in a win over the Lions and also had 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble as the Bears won the NFC North and secured a first-round bye in the playoffs.
For the season, Urlacher had a team leading 126 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception. He is clearly back to the level that he was at before he missed 15 games last season with a wrist injury.
Urlacher isn’t as fast as he once was and that was evident on an interception against the Vikings that was reversed, but he is stronger than ever.
